Each classroom has ability groups

Each classroom has ability groups, during lessons the higher ability groups are generally able to complete their tasks on their own with minimal input from myself or the teacher, the work is set for the ability with Yellow, Green and Purple receiving more challenging work as opposed to Blue and Red (lower ability), work for these groups are still challenging but to their level and ability. Language barriers are always present but we have translation apps on the classroom iPad’s if they needed to help our EAL children understand more. Even within our lower groups there are year 2 children working at 30-50 months, Polish, Russian and also cared for children who haven’t had a great start, we will always support them but also request they work independently if they can to encourage the head down and try approach, which we feel helps build confidence in the children with lower ability.
