Emporium Hock Kee Seng Sdn Bhd is one of the largest supermarkets in Kuala Terengganu. Emporium Hock Kee Seng is not a mere competitor of any local retailer. It was founded in 1981 by the CEO Chua Kok Leong as the only grocery store in Kuala Terengganu. The head office is located at Jalan Sultan Ismail Outlet in Kuala Terengganu. These mega companies cannot easily handle the presence of Hock Kee Seng and have to admit that Hock Kee Seng is an aggressive and progressive retailer that reduces its market share in the retail sector. Today, Hock Kee Seng is known not only for its market value but also for its brand among local customers and manufacturers for Terengganu region. Local producers have found a convenient way to manage their products. Emporium Hock Kee Seng is a retailer. Its main competitors are Mydin, Giant, Tunas Manja and Sabasun. Its job is to offer a wide range of foods and products for daily use at lower prices so that the largest number of people can handle them. Its reputation grew too. It is maintained this reasoning even as the business expanded and invested in three more locations in the Kuala Terengganu region.

The main purpose of sharing the story and how it started is to tell your friends and potential investors how you approached this business idea and why you are fully qualified to continue it. The company started with a humble beginning. Emporium Hock Kee Seng Sdn Bhd was founded in 1981 by the CEO Chua Kok Leong as the only grocery store in Kuala Terengganu. Emporium Hock Kee Seng business is retail and wholesale. The products range from food, families, and sweets to thick lines. Solid Line products include hardware, electricity, stationery and toys. The range of foods includes cakes, drinks and beverages, desserts and dairy products. The company vision is to offer a wide range of foods and products for daily use at lower prices so that the largest number of people can handle them. While, the mission of company is we strive to the leading wholesale and retail company with the best value for money, a wide range of products and continuous perfection based on our commercial formula shows in Table 1.1.
The Emporium Hock Kee Seng started their business from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Emporium Hock Kee Seng has authorized three shift of work for the supermarket staff from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the night from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m and for full time which from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Every employee of the supermarket has one off day a week or either it’s Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Currently, Emporium Hock Kee Seng employs have about 130 people in Gong Badak and 400 out of four outlets in the Kuala Terengganu. Its main competitors are Mydin, Giant, Tunas Manja and Sabasun. Its job is to offer a wide range of foods and products for daily use at lower prices so that the largest number of people can handle them. Some of the privileges that the employee of Emporium Hock Kee Seng get include insurance for employees and discounts on the purchase of company products. At the end of every year, the employees of Emporium Hock Kee Seng that shows their good achievement will get bonuses as their compensation. Managing personnel can be a challenge for small businesses that do not normally have a human resources department. They may be limited to a person in charge of Human Resources or that responsibility may belong to the CEO. According to Madam Siti Zuraidah binti Alias who is Human Resource Manager of Emporium Hock Kee Seng she is the only one person in charge of Human Resources so that some decisions will be made by her CEO. However, small businesses must understand the challenges they face in order to be prepared for human resource management as society and the workforce evolve. There are challenges in the management of another workforce. Managing diversity is more than simply recognizing change in people. This includes recognizing the value of diversity, combating discrimination and promoting inclusion. Executives can also face labor and labor productivity losses due to biases and discrimination, as well as appeals and legal actions against the organization (Devoe 1999).

• Lack of diversity workforce
Negative attitudes and behaviors can be obstacles to organizational diversity, as they can influence labor relations and negatively affect work morale and productivity (Esty et al. 1995). Negative attitudes and attitudes at work include prejudices, stereotypes and discrimination that management should never use to hire, maintain and dismiss practices (which can lead to costly litigation). The composition of the workforce is changing in the current situation. Diversity is created not only by age, gender, education and religion, but also by the nature, personality and position of the workers. From the interview with Madam Siti Zuraidah, there are a lot of challenges that she faced in managing the problematic employees. One of the examples of problematic employee is stealing. The human resource manager will give warning letter for the employee who is stealing but if those incidents occur again she will ask the problematic employee to give her notice to quit. This is due to keep the reputation of that worker if they ask to quit for their own either than they lay off.

• Difficult to find workers
Whether you’re starting a new business or trying to build an existing business, the best way to improve every aspect of your business’s performance is to adapt the hiring process to attract great talent. Recruitment refers to the process of recruiting, publishing and selecting qualified individuals for a position in an organization. This is an important engine to provide an effective workforce. A good contract is to find the right person to work with and has an impact on the business, brand and client marketing, labor force and profitability. Earning talent is a great investment in time and money. Entrepreneurs have difficulties in achieving a balance between maintaining their business and hiring the right people in a timely manner. It is also impossible to see if a candidate is really suitable before working for you for a while. According to Chiou Thien Ling (2018), the new generation is quite demanding. They tend to think that they want to become managers in five years. But they can do it, that’s enough. We are challenged to reach people with language skills who want to learn beyond their reach and try to learn beyond what they have learned. They must also be able to adapt to different cultures and environments.

So that, the new worker searching others companies first and if not accept Emporium Hock Kee Seng will be the last place they will go for an interview. In addition, maintaining existing employees is also difficult as most of them are unfaithful to their employees and receive other companies when they get a better offer than other companies

• Difficult to control a different scopes of workers
Although small business employees tend to perform tasks much more general and diverse than those employed in larger companies, it is important that small businesses recognize the key role of each employee and the typical tasks they perform. The field of employment determines the responsibility of the employer in different situations. The employer and the employee must understand the expectations of the position. Ultimately, the field of legal employment consists of a series of activities that the employee must carry out wisely in the course of his work. In this activity, the employer may be held responsible for the actions of employees if a third party is injured by the behavior of the employee.

Emporium Hock Kee Seng having difficulties in managing their workers that have different scopes of works. For example, store workers doing their work in lifting items, promoter is promote the product to customer while cashier do their work in scanning the item that the customer buy. In addition, in terms of discipline, clothing, work entry time is the same so that it’s not too difficult to handle the worker with same aspects.
