In every agency it has a key specific role to be played, the following are the description of the roles and responsibilities of the various organisations that may be involved when a child/ young adult has been abused or harmed.
Social Services
These services will be concerned with the immediate care of the child. They ensure that child is safe from any harm. They will work in partnership with parents and other agencies in order to do this. It helps them to enable and decide what action to be taken to safeguard or promote the child or young adult’s welfare.
Health visitors and GP’s
They know how and when to refer child/young adult to social services if they find any concern regarding sexual abuse, emotional abuse or neglect. They are alerted immediately when the other staff members of the school care team has any concerns about the child’s welfare. Sharing the required information with social services when any questions or enquires are being made. By attending child protection conferences in order to develop their relevant information about safeguarding child and their family. Giving the relevant training to the employees working in the medical sector.
National Security for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC)
The NSPCC (National Security for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) is a voluntary organisation which is working for the benefit of children by protecting them from any harm. It is the only voluntary organisation which has statutory powers for taking action where there is any case of abuses. It’s also provides services to support the families and children or young adult through a helplines and pulls attention and public awareness for their safety and protection.
Educational Services
In every school and colleges the pastoral is also having responsibility towards the children and by taking reasonable steps to ensure that a child’s or young adult’s welfare is being safeguarded and safety is well-maintained. They have own policies and procedures for safeguarding children and young adults and also create and maintains a safe environment for them. They are trained to recognise and noticing outwards signs of abuse or neglect and mediates with social services where there are fears about abuse or neglect
